SOLUTION: It works well but involves WhatsApp. After you have highlighted the bit that you want to turn into a sticker in the gallery, don't save it as a sticker. Instead, click on 'Copy'. Return to the WhatsApp chat; it will appear on your clipboard. Click on it, and it will send as a sticker. Then, you can save it to your favorites on WhatsApp.
