When I first set my phone they asked me to select apps and I didn't select the spotify. I installed it from playstore afterwards. Is there any difference between the two things? Can anyone confirm? Can I uninstall the preinstalled spotify if required?.

no there is no differences. the pre installed one is mostly an old version. and samsung music already have that spotify tab on right.
that why they ask to install on your first phone seting.
so no needs to reinstall. and always update apps with google play thats it enjoy

So, you're saying the preinstalled one is not installed as system app?

just continue using no need of reinstalling older versions that come with phone.
if any updates are showing in playstore just update thats it

install it from galaxy store ( if any exclusive feature for Samsung then you should)..... even when pre installing the app would have been downloaded from Galaxy store.

Spotify is also integrated in Samsung Music app
