Yea google photos is btr tbh but I haven't come across any problem my face detection is perfectly fine :)

Enable and Manage Face Tagging ⚙️😊

Open Samsung Gallery. 📍

Tap the three-dot menu > Settings. 💫

Enable Face tagging if it’s not already on. 👍
