S8 does not turn on after May software update

I updated my S8 to the May software version from settings and midway through the update the phone just turned off. Now, it won't turn on or even respond to charging/forced restart. Phone will not go into download mode either.

I went to the service center and was told they have to change the motherboard. So essentially it was a mistake to update the phone! I can't believe this. Anyone else faced such an issue before?
