The vulnerability in question wasn’t just discovered in the Galaxy S8, but it was one of three Galaxy phones included in the list of affected devices when the vulnerability was publicly revealed. Google’s fix for the vulnerability came as part of the October security patch, but Samsung is releasing it through the November update for all of its devices. The November patch should also plug a vulnerability in Samsung’s Camera app that can allow malicious apps to record photos and videos without the user’s content.
November update for Galaxy devices brings fixes for two critical vulnerabilities. One of those allows unauthorized access to a phone’s photos and videos and its camera to malicious apps, while the other allows full control of a device by taking advantage of an exploit within the Chrome web browser. Both vulnerabilities affect Android devices from other manufacturers as well and are not exclusive to Samsung phones and tablets.
