Hello Samsung Members,

I’ve been using the S23 Ultra for a year and have never exposed it to water before. Recently, I briefly took it into shallow water (well within the IP68 rating) to capture some photos and videos. I took phone out of water in 10 sec every time and recorded very short 10-15 seconds 2 clips. Initially, the phone seemed fine, but after a few minutes, the screen turned green and stopped responding. I also noticed moisture inside the camera.

I dried the phone for two days, and thankfully, it started working again. However, my rear camera has stopped functioning. Given that the device is IP68-rated, I didn’t expect this to happen with such minimal water exposure.

I’d really appreciate any guidance on this. Has anyone else faced a similar issue? Also, @Samsungindia, could you help me understand my options for repair or support?

Thanks in advance!

If the phone is dropped then it affect ip rating. So please take care. Don't use phone under water if possible. Ip68 rating does not mean phone is waterproof in all condition. As of now you can contact nearby service center.

Nope, I took it in swimming pool and that too i kept it upside down to avoid water in the charging port. I have not dropped the phone or used extra force of water.

If your phone not dropped by you may be possible that someone else from your family dropped it and you don't know?

Thanks for sharing your experience with the S23 Ultra. It’s really unfortunate that this happened, especially since you were careful and stayed within the IP68 rating guidelines. For those who might not know, IP68 means the phone is designed to withstand dust and water immersion up to 1.5 meters for 30 minutes. However, it’s important to note that the IP rating doesn’t guarantee protection in all situations, and it doesn’t cover water damage under warranty.

Water resistance can degrade over time due to wear and tear, drops, or even exposure to certain environments (like saltwater or chlorinated water). Even if the phone was briefly exposed, small factors like water pressure or temperature changes could potentially affect the seals.

Since your rear camera isn’t working, I’d recommend reaching out to Samsung support directly. They might be able to diagnose the issue and provide repair options, though it’s likely this would be a paid service since water damage isn’t covered under warranty. If you have any additional insurance or protection plans, now would be a good time to check if they cover this kind of damage.

In the future, it might be worth considering a waterproof case for situations like this, just to be extra safe. Let me know how it goes with Samsung—I hope they can help you get it fixed!
