It's very unfortunate that you're experiencing the green line issue on your Samsung S22 Ultra after a software update. This is a known problem that has affected many Samsung users, particularly those with AMOLED displays, and often appears after updates.
Here's a breakdown of the situation and potential solutions:
1. Why the Green Line Appears (Most Likely Cause):
While it appears after a software update, the green line itself is usually a hardware issue. It's often related to the display panel or the ribbon cable connecting the display to the motherboard. The update might trigger or exacerbate a pre-existing weakness in the hardware.
2. Is there a software fix or a way to roll back updates?
* Rolling back updates: Officially, Samsung does not recommend or easily support rolling back to previous firmware versions. While there are unofficial methods (like using Odin to flash older firmware), these are complex, carry risks (like bricking your phone), and may not resolve a hardware-related green line. Furthermore, even if you manage to downgrade, your phone might automatically re-update when connected to Wi-Fi.
* Software troubleshooting: Some users have reported temporary fixes like restarting the phone, clearing the cache partition (booting in recovery mode), or even rapidly turning the screen on and off. There's also a suggestion to try changing the motion smoothness to standard (60Hz) in display settings, though this is often not a permanent fix. However, these are generally not long-term solutions for a hardware problem.
3. The Most Common and Effective Solution: Screen Replacement
* Hardware defect: The green line is primarily a display defect. The most reliable solution is to replace the screen.
* Samsung's Policy: Samsung has, in many regions, acknowledged this as a manufacturing defect and offered free screen replacements for affected devices, even if they are out of warranty.
* Extension of free replacement: As of recent reports (April 2025), Samsung has extended its free screen replacement program for select Galaxy models, including the S22 Ultra and S21 series, until September 2025.
* Eligibility: Typically, devices should not have any physical damage or water damage to be eligible. The offer is often valid for devices within three years from the date of purchase.
* Labor charges: While the parts replacement (screen, battery, rework kit) is often free, some reports indicate that labor charges might still apply.
What you should do:
* Contact Samsung Support Immediately: This is your best course of action. Explain that the green line appeared after a recent software update.
* Visit an Authorized Samsung Service Center: They will diagnose the issue. Be prepared to emphasize that the problem occurred after an update and that you're aware of Samsung's extended policy for green line issues.
* Inquire about the free screen replacement program: Specifically mention the extended program for the S22 Ultra and ask if your device is eligible. Be persistent if they initially deny it, as policies can vary by region and individual service centers might not be fully updated.
* Be aware of limitations: Understand that if there's any unrelated physical or water damage, it might void your eligibility for a free repair.
In summary, while there's no software solution to fix a hardware green line, Samsung has been offering free screen replacements for the S22 Ultra due to this known issue. Your primary focus should be on getting the screen replaced by an authorized service center under their extended warranty program.
