Hey galaxy team members,

I recently did a factory data reset of my phone. I had enhanced data protection feature turned on due to which my backup was encrypted.

I have forgot/lost my 28 digit recovery code and hence unable to restore the backup.

Does anyone have any idea how to reset the recovery code ?
Or how to turn off Enhanced data protection?
I tried turning off Enhanced data protection but again it is asking for recovery code.

Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks

If you have a device that can access end-to-end encrypted data, you can change the recovery code via the device's

"Enhanced data protection > Change recovery code" menu.

The old recovery code is no longer available if you have updated the recovery code.

NOTE:
There is no way to access the end-to-end encrypted data if both the recovery code and the device that can access it are lost. Even if you have lost the current end-to-end encrypted data, you can still use the end-to-end encryption by initializing the end-to-end encryption.

When the end-to-end encryption is reset (initialized), the backed-up data cannot be accessed permanently.

If you lose your recovery code for encrypted Samsung Cloud backup, there is no way to access the encrypted data without it. You can change the recovery code through the "Enhanced data protection" settings if you have access to the device. However, if both the recovery code and device are lost, the encrypted data cannot be retrieved. Resetting the encryption will permanently erase access to the existing backup data.

To reset the encryption for Samsung Cloud backup:

Open Settings on your Samsung device.
Navigate to Accounts and backup.
Select Samsung Cloud.
Tap More options (three dots) and select Settings.
Find Enhanced data protection and select it.
You can reset the encryption, but this will delete your existing encrypted backups.

I tapped on 3 dots and tapped on enhanced data protection but after that it is again asking for recovery code. There is no option for resetting the encryption

I contacted even the customer support specialist of samsung, they told me to visit service center saying it is a hardware issue 😂. I wonder whether samsung support team is high on weed.

It seems the only option left is to delete your existing samsung account and create a new one. ( never turn on the enhanced data protection feature, if you loose recovery code then there is no way to turn off this feature)

In that case, you may need to contact Samsung Support to explore other potential solutions
