If the previous apk doesn't work try this from the play store.

As @HirukaNU14 said, the easiest way to open Google assistant is holding down the home button. Or else using hand gestures.

Otherwise if you really want the side key be mapped to the assistant... there are two ways to do it. But you need Google Assistant app installed in your phone for both methods.

1. You can configure a Bixby quick command to open Google assistant.
This way, Bixby will run first, and will execute the command to open the Google Assistant.

2. Using third party apps.
Example, bxActions/bxLauncher (downloadable from stores) or XDA's Bixby Button Assistant Remapper (not downloadable from stores).
However, Bixby Button Assistant Remapper doesn't work on Android 11 (properly), on Android 10 it will work. bxActions and bxLauncher both give many more features than just opening Google assistant. And they also give support for single press, double press and hold down.

bxActions: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.bxactions
bxLauncher (more features than bxActions): https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.bxlauncher

Open bixby > upper left corner "hamburger" menu > Quick Commands > upper right corner + button > add what you say to Bixby as "assistant" (or something you like) > tap Add a command > select Type a command > type "Open Assistant" > tap "done" in keyboard > tap "Save".

Now quick command is set up.
Add it to the side key.
(I think you are using an S9, as said in your previous post?)

Settings > Advanced features > Bixby key > select "Double press to open Bixby" > select "Use single press" > turn ON > select "Run quick command" > select the settings icon in the same option > select the quick command you set up.

That is it. Your side key will run the quick command and open Google assistant.

if you are using button navigation you can tap home button and hold few seconds to launch google assistant .if you are using full screen gestures you can launch it by swiping bottom corner to middle.

• First download this app (apk. File) from the link below.
https://ava1.androidfilehost.com/dl/D14t6EkSIgyHReIa2Wc2Jw/1621453421/1395089523397903362/com.xda.bi...

• Install and open it.
• Then press google assistant as seen on the app's screen.

• Then Go to Settings > Advanced Features > Side key and change the following,
• Turn Double Press on
• Select open app
• Choose Bixby Button

• Now Close and double press the side key which will open Google Assistant.

I think its pretty normal for a third party app handler. Since it remaps the command to open bixby, might have bugs.
Try cleaning app data for both the assistants and restart.
Also allow background usage for bixby button remapper.
