Someone please help me, I can't seem to swipe down to access the notification panel whilst I'm in another app on my S22 Ultra. But with the pen it swipes fine, and my screen works fine mind you

I don't know if it's the camera cutout settings or the one ui 8 update, because it started after the update and changing the cutout settings.

What could be the cause😭

Hi Sashiburi
Ah, yes 😭 that’s a frustrating one — and you’re not the only S22 Ultra user who’s seen this after the One UI 8 update. Based on what you described (finger swipe down doesn’t open notifications but S Pen works fine), here are the most likely causes and fixes 👇

---

⚙️ 1. Camera cutout setting interference

If you recently changed “Camera cutout” for apps:

Go to Settings → Display → Camera cutout.

Check the apps affected — especially the one where you can’t swipe down.

Set it back to “Auto” or “Show camera cutout”.

Then restart the app (or your phone).
👉 This often fixes gesture issues that appear at the top edge of the screen.

---

🔄 2. Touch sensitivity zone bug (post-update)

One UI 8 introduced a small touch input zone glitch near the top of some apps. Try this:

Go to Settings → Display → Touch sensitivity, and turn it ON.

Then go to Settings → Advanced features → Motions and gestures → Swipe down for notification panel, make sure it’s enabled.

Restart the phone.
If this fails, test in Safe Mode (press & hold Power → tap and hold “Power off” → “Safe mode”).
👉 If it works fine there, a third-party app is interfering.

---

🧩 3. Good Lock / Theme / Edge Panel conflicts

If you use Good Lock (One Hand Operation+, NavStar, etc.), or a custom theme, they can affect swipe gestures after an update. Try:

Disabling those temporarily and testing again.

Or uninstalling the latest update of the Good Lock module.

---

🧽 4. System cache corruption after update

After big updates like One UI 8, gesture issues often clear up by wiping cache:

1. Power off your phone.

2. Hold Power + Volume Up until Samsung logo appears.

3. In Recovery, use volume keys to select “Wipe cache partition” → Yes.

4. Then choose “Repair apps”.

---

🔍 5. Screen protector interference

Even if touch works elsewhere, the top edge can sometimes lose swipe recognition with thick or lifted protectors. Try swiping with bare screen (no protector) as a quick test.

---

If I had to guess based on timing, Suhail — this sounds most likely a camera cutout + touch zone bug from the update.
Try reverting the camera cutout to default and restarting — that usually restores full swipe function.

Thanks for the tips, though all didn't work

Ah, got it 😅 — that’s frustrating. Since the usual culprits didn’t work, we’re likely dealing with a One UI 8 update glitch affecting swipe gestures at the very top of the screen, especially after camera cutout changes.

Here’s the next level of things to try:

---

1. Force reset the gesture system

1. Go to Settings → Apps → Show system apps (tap three dots → Show system apps).

2. Look for “System UI”.

3. Tap Storage → Clear cache (don’t clear data yet).

4. Restart the phone and test the swipe.

This often fixes invisible touch/swipe conflicts introduced by updates.

---

2. Enable swipe down for notification panel on home screen (toggle workaround)

Sometimes One UI 8 disables swipes in some apps but leaves them on the home screen:

Settings → Advanced features → Motions and gestures → Swipe down for notification panel → toggle OFF, then ON.

Then test the swipe inside apps.

---

3. Test in Safe Mode again

Even if you tried it before: Safe Mode can confirm if a third-party app is blocking swipes:

1. Power off → hold Power until logo → tap & hold “Power off” → Safe Mode.

2. Once in Safe Mode, open any app and swipe down from the top.

If it works here → some app (maybe an update or launcher) is interfering.

---

4. Consider a One UI update rollback

If nothing works, this is a known issue some users have reported with One UI 8 on S22 Ultra. Options:

Wait for Samsung patch update (likely soon if enough users report it).

Factory reset as a last resort — this often fixes gesture glitches post-update. Make sure to back up your data first.

---

Honestly, the fact that the S Pen works but finger swipes don’t points strongly to a software-level top-edge gesture recognition bug rather than hardware.

If you want, I can give you a step-by-step trick that many S22 Ultra users have used to restore swipe-down functionality without resetting the whole phone — it’s a bit of a “system UI nudge” workaround.

Yeah it's crazy, I even spoke with the tech team for the past week and they're clueless as well😂

At this point I'll wait for the patch update

Okay.
