Galaxy S1. Disable Hardware Overlays
This is a common "pro" fix for screen flickering. You'll need to unlock Developer Options first:
Go to Settings > About phone > Software information. Tap Build number 7 times until it says "Developer mode has been turned on." Go back to the main Settings menu and tap the new Developer options at the bottom. Search for or scroll to Disable HW overlays and toggle it ON. Note: This forces the phone to use the GPU for screen compositing, which often stops the flickering. 2. Adjust Motion Smoothness
The S24 Ultra's adaptive 120Hz refresh rate can sometimes "stutter" during high-data tasks like app updates.
Go to Settings > Display > Motion smoothness. Switch it from Adaptive to Standard (60Hz) and see if the flickering stops while downloading. 3. Clear Google Play Store Cache
Since it only happens during updates, the Play Store app itself might have a corrupted cache:
Go to Settings > Apps > Google Play Store. Tap Storage > Clear cache. (Optional) You can also tap Clear data, though you’ll need to sign back in or re-adjust your Play Store settings. 4. Check for "Home Up" Conflicts
If you use Samsung's Good Lock app, specifically the Home Up module, a recent bug in the "DIY Home" feature has been known to cause flickering. Try disabling any custom home screen layouts within Good Lock to see if that resolves it.

Galaxy SThank you for sharing your experience with us. We understand your concern regarding the screen flickering observed on your Galaxy S24 Ultra while downloading or updating applications from the Google Play Store, and we apologize for the inconvenience caused.
Screen flickering during specific activities such as app downloads or updates may be related to software behavior, display refresh handling, or temporary system processes running in the background. Restarting the device is a good initial step, and we appreciate you confirming that this has already been attempted.
To further narrow down the cause, we recommend checking the following:
- Ensure the device is running the latest available software version for your region.
- Verify whether the issue occurs only during Play Store activity or also in other scenarios.
- Check if any display-related settings (such as adaptive brightness or motion smoothness) affect the behavior.
- If the flickering continues after confirming the above, it is recommended to visit the nearest authorized Samsung Service Center. The device can then be examined using official diagnostic tools to assess the display, software stability, and system performance, and the appropriate action will be taken in accordance with Samsung policies.
You can locate the nearest authorized Samsung Service Center using the link below:
