Fingerprint Sensor Not Working After One UI 8 Update — Anyone Else Facing This?

Hi Samsung Members,

I recently updated my Galaxy S22 Ultra to One UI 8 based on Android 16, and ever since, my fingerprint sensor has stopped working completely. It doesn’t recognize any saved prints, and even trying to re-register new ones fails. I’ve tried restarting, clearing cache, and checking biometric settings — no luck so far.

I’m wondering: Is this a widespread issue or just affecting a few of us?

After browsing through forums and tech sites, I found that many users across different Galaxy models — including S22 Ultra, Z Fold 5, and Z Flip 6 — are experiencing similar problems. Some report the fingerprint scanner going unresponsive, while others say the “Fingerprint always on” feature behaves inconsistently.

A few suggested workarounds include:
- Wiping the cache partition via recovery mode
- Resetting device settings and re-adding fingerprints
- Clearing One UI Home storage and restarting

These seem to help temporarily, but the issue often returns. Some users even noticed other bugs like apps vanishing from the Recents screen or SIM slot downgrading from 5G to 4G LTE.

Samsung hasn’t officially acknowledged the fingerprint bug yet, but there are rumors that the One UI 8 rollout for the S22 series may have been paused due to these glitches.

If you’re facing the same issue, please share your experience below. Let’s help each other out and maybe get Samsung’s attention for a quick fix.

Thanks,
Akash

I'm sorry but I doubt most people can/will factory reset because their fingerprints are not working

Galaxy A26 here, it's letting me register new fingerprints but not letting me use them. I saw somewhere online that they updated it to need a new 'swipe' pattern? But that doesn't work either. Checking my fingerprints under screen lock and biometrics also does not result in anything.

I hope this is addressed in an upcoming update. For me, its temporary and fingerprint starts working after restarting the device. But not a permanent solution.
