Did you know your phone's Ram's GB is not what it says it is??

This is my A36 device and it's claimed to be 6GB Ram on the specifications i than downloaded Geekbench 6 my final result report was 5.16 GB instead of the actual 6GB Ram.

For an example let's say you buy the Samsung S25 Ultra and it's said to house 12GB Ram on specifications based on ram GB it's not exact 12GB but maybe it might be 11.56GB i use to think it's exactly as based on specifications but i was wrong why is that?

I've also noticed with my old sold A16 5G based on specifications it was said to have 4GB Ram but on Geekbench 6 I got about 3.56GB Ram.

It was an interesting discovery hence why I even posted it and I want people to be aware of the device they purchase and the ram they get and actually understand about it if I'm breaking it into table of contents because most people would think 4 gig is enough as far as specifications are but it's actually different so interesting topic to me I guess I was just inquisitive and ready to share my little knowledge.

It is actually 6GB. These apps use the same calculation methods as Windows on desktops.

These apps and Windows calculate storage and RAM in bits and your phone uses bytes

8 Bits = 1 Byte.
8 Kilobits = 1 Kilobyte.
8 Megabits = 1 Megabyte.
8 Gigabits = 1 Gigabyte.
8 Terabits = 1 Terabyte.
8 Petabits = 1 Petabyte.

The "Bits" are used by developers, hence that is why the app uses it too.

Thank you for stating that I was confused too myself because I'm also a user of an iPhone 16 pro Max and it's 8 gig of RAM by specifications but when using the Geekbench 6 i got about 7.48 GB ram as posed to the actual 8GB this is kind of sad because most people are not aware of this for example one could just purchase a 4 gig RAM device thinking it's good enough but when now calculating using other third party apps the actual amount of the RAM GB differ from the based specification which might be quite sad for others to actually take in, let's use basics for an example let's just say i decide to surprise my grandma with a new smartphone and the phone is said to be 4GB Ram which than makes my grandma happy becoz to her the number 4 is good enough than 3 😂 😅 which than makes her happy hearing that her device is based on 4GB when referring from box specifications then her smart granddaughter downloads the Geekbench 6 and have her device calculate the actual ram she than finds out that it's not exactly 4 gig RAM but 3.56GB Ram which will break her heart because based on specifications she saw and was told her phone was 4 gig RAM crazy right. 😂 🙌

Very crazy 😂. There might be a setting to change this on Geekbench 6. I will download it and let you know.

I sold mine the 4GB variant stressed me to the core is it the A16 i feel like the 4GB Ram device are good for being secondary phone like let's say u have your daily driver S25 Ultra or iPhone 16Promax than you only use the 4GB phone for light stuff. 😅

It's very bad as a daily phone. It's around 3GB of RAM used most of the time which makes the phone feel slow and lag a lot.

A phone with 6GB or more is recommended.
