I don't use any of the above phones but Yes, recent updates have negatively impacted camera performance on the Galaxy S22 Ultra and S23 Ultra for some users, with reports of blurry photos, loss of detail, and issues with specific mode. I also read a few things that had this newsflash.

Hi
yes — there are plenty of user reports that a recent software update (especially One UI 7 / Android 15) has degraded camera performance (or camera behavior) on the Galaxy S22 Ultra and S23 Ultra. But whether it’s a wide-scale confirmed bug, hardware issue, or just perception is less clear. Here’s what I found and what to watch out for.
---
What people are reporting
Here are some of the most common complaints:
Symptom Reported on Sources / examples
Blurry / soft images, loss of sharpness S23 / S23 Ultra Multiple users say after installing One UI 7, their images became “blurry, washed out, lacking crispness.”
Over-processed / “smoothed” look S23 / S22 Reports that the image processing is more aggressive, reducing natural detail.
Poor performance in low light or with zoom S23 / S22 The problems seem particularly noticeable in challenging lighting or at higher zoom levels.
Camera app instability, slow transitions, preview lag S23 / S22 Some users report the camera app freezing, taking longer to switch modes, or camera preview delay.
“Camera failed” errors or inability to open camera S22 Some S22 users say after updates the camera app stops working until reset or factory restore.
One well-summarized example:
> “Many Galaxy S23 users are now reporting a drop in camera quality after installing One UI 7 … issues include blurry photos, washed-out photos … especially in low-light conditions.”
Another:
> “After the update, the photo quality has dropped drastically — especially when zooming in. The pictures are now unclear and blurry …”
Samsung has also been indirectly flagged in community forums due to complaints.
---
Possible causes / caveats
While the user reports are many, here are factors to consider for why this might happen (or seem to happen):
1. Software / Image Processing Changes
Updates (especially big Android / UI version updates) often bring changes in the camera software pipeline: new algorithms for HDR, noise reduction, sharpening, tone mapping, etc. Some changes may be too aggressive or not optimal for older hardware, leading to “softer” images, over-smoothing, or weird artifacts.
2. Re-tuning for power / thermal / battery tradeoffs
New software may alter how aggressively the phone limits processing (especially in low light or zoom modes) for battery or thermal reasons, which can impact frame merging, exposure stacking, or other computational photography steps.
3. Regression / bug
These could simply be new bugs in the update. If a regression was introduced in the camera stack (e.g. incorrect parameters, faulty sensor calibration, or buggy branch of processing), it could degrade results.
4. User expectation / perception
When you know there’s been an update, you might scrutinize images more. Also, aging hardware (sensor wear, lens micro-scratches, dust) can combine with software tweaks to amplify perceived quality drops.
5. Region / firmware / variant differences
Not all users will see the effect — it might depend on the region, firmware build, or which camera module variant is in your specific unit.
6. Workarounds / resets might help
Some users report that clearing the camera cache/data, resetting the camera settings, or even rolling back/downgrading OS versions gives improvements.
7. Official response / patch
I did not find a definitive Samsung statement saying they “intentionally degraded camera performance,” but I saw reports that Samsung support is asking users to file error reports via Samsung Members and that future patches are expected.
---
My assessment / summary
The volume of reports is nontrivial; this is not just one or two users.
The types of complaints (loss of sharpness, washed-out tones, instability) are consistent across both S22 and S23 lines in many reports.
It’s plausible this is a software regression (or aggressive re-tuning) introduced in a major update (One UI 7 / Android 15).
