Galaxy SIt's finally official. No Samsung user would have wanted it to happen, but in reality One UI 7 is definitely delayed until at least 2025, surely looking for the development team of the Suwon giant, Seoul, to have additional time with which to complete a major facelift that One UI needed quite a long time ago, and that will finally arrive with the base of Android 15.
It is not that the delay is strange, far from it, because this has happened and will happen not only with Samsung but with a multitude of manufacturers. What does raise doubts is that what will happen now with the 7 years of updates promised by Samsung, and is that with the South Koreans we now enter unknown terrain.
The truth is that fifteen generations later, no Galaxy S had been released before a major update of Samsung's software on Android, neither in the case of TouchWiz, nor with Samsung Experience nor now with One UI, so we do not know very well how Samsung will fit the next major updates of its firmware in the future.
But let's not stay here... Let's look at the situation!
If the Galaxy S24 doesn't receive two major updates in 2025, they won't meet the promised support
The first thing to note is that the first year of support should include a big Android update, but with the Galaxy S24 that will not happen since they will be updated after the arrival of the Galaxy S25, which will be the phones that will surely release One UI 7.
This means that either One UI 8 with the Android 16 base is advanced, as long as expectations are met and development is easier, or Samsung will start to accumulate a significant delay with updates. This is mainly because the Galaxy S25 will release One 7 and One UI 8, and therefore systematically delay the entire chain.
If Samsung accumulates delays in the arrival of the big One UI updates, it will have to extend active support beyond 7 years or it will not arrive with 7 updates to the Galaxy S24... Let's see if OnePlus was right and it is better to ensure the experience!
The implications are many, as Samsung had promised 7 years of support and 7 major updates to the system, but if the large new versions of the firmware accumulate delays in 7 years of support only 5 or 6 new iterations of One UI will be released. The bottom line is that Samsung will need to speed up updates with Android 16 and beyond, or it can extend the years of support to reach those 7 major updates.
And I know that many of you will be thinking that it is a problem, because at this point nobody expects a smartphone to last 7 years or much less, but the truth is that Samsung will have to clarify the roadmap of updates because 7 years of support is certainly many years.
Will it be feasible or not so long to support actively? What do you think? and was it better to ensure the experience and not the time...
