Just got my phone today, delivered by DPD, but when I opened the box there was no plastic cover on the front screen and there were fingerprints all over the screen. And then I pealed off the back plastic cover and I felt that it was pealed off earlier as well but then put it back and there were also fingerprints on the back glass too. And shockingly there were some signs of wear and tear on front edge, so I have requested an exchange but quite shocked as this kills the whole excitement of a new phone and this whole exchange process takes 7-10 working days as advised by sales team after spending 1 hour on phone with them.

write an email as well to the concerned department for written communication cannot be ignored and it reach to the upper level of executives.

Actually I've sealed the parcel now as they've arranged the collection tomorrow for exchange. But yes that could be a good idea to check whether the IMEI number was same as what was on the bill or not.
