Even thought a reset is recommended after an OTA update, you can use the device without reset if everything seems fine.

There are still some community members who recommends hard reset after update.

Usually of you take the phone to a service centre for software update (through Odin using PC not OTA), samsung will do an update, then a factory reset and then they will rewrite the IMEI of the device which will automatically reset the device again. Technically 2 hard resets after 1 update.

Its better to take a backup > update(either with PC or OTA) > then hard reset > restore the backup.
