I updated mobile today. I wish i didn't! Battery seems to be draining 1% every 3 minutes! That's crazy. Even with charger on, it gets super hot.! My Note 10+ is less than 1.5 year old.. In mint condition.. Any suggestions??

Hi, try to clear your cache partition, update your apps from Google store and play store

Being hot, soon after the update is normal. It may show some battery drain too. Please wait 2-3 days so that it gets adapted. Anyway please wipe your cache partition.

If nothing solves, perform a battery calibration.
(Drain your battery to zero. Again turn ON and drain fully. Now charge it to straight 100% without turning ON (slow charging preferred) Remove any phone case if any, to prevent heating while charging. )

Is that method tried and guaranteed not to harm the battery?

I can just guarantee that it's tried and it solves. I myself had done it too. (Eg: https://r2.community.samsung.com/t5/Tablets/When-my-tab-is-in-93-it-js-showing-full-charge/td-p/9041...)
But regarding the battery health, I'm not an expert for that. Draining battery beyond 30-20 is never preferred. I never do it. But this usually applies to continuous and habitual usages and in a long run.
If we drain it just for once and it is for a purpose, I would say no issues.
We take drugs, and everything have the side effects😊.

Try replacing the battery, if it's health has dropped as that's also one of the reason for battery dropping like that, or try putting unused apps to sleep
