On new devices its visible from the Bluetooth Settings Menu.
Just long press the Bluetooth quick setting tile, it will take you to bluetooth settings. from there you can see the connected device list and battery percentage.

oh ok may be that's the issue, my jbl headset is bluetooth 4.0 anyways thanks for the information.
