Samsung has now officially removed the Galaxy Note 9 from its monthly software update list. The Galaxy Note 9 has now moved to a quarterly update schedule.

The Galaxy Note 9 was there on the list of monthly update devices in August 2021. Samsung also dropped support for the Galaxy S8 Lite and the Galaxy Note FE entirely.

With the announcement of the October 2020 security bulletinSamsung shifted one of the best old flagships, the Galaxy Note 8 to the quarterly section down from the monthly updates.

Launched in 2017, Samsung Galaxy Note 8 comes pre-installed with Android 7 and later received an upgrade to Android 8. The device currently runs One UI 1.0 based on Android 9. According to Samsung’s upgrade policy, Note 8 users are allowed to get only two major updates.

Except for major upgrades, Samsung sends monthly and quarterly software updates that improve system security, and sometimes it also fixes issues and installs a few new features. The software update tier of Samsung expands at least 3 years but Samsung also gives 1-year bonus updates to some devices, making it a total of 4-year software support.

Previously, S-series’ old flagship – Galaxy S8 and S8+ also demoted to quarterly security updates. Overall, the one thing you should know is that both Galaxy S8 and Note 8 devices will continue to receive software updates but are now under the quarterly timespan.
