no harmful effects elsewhere when you remove the memory card storage from the device

no harmful.... only don't remove sd card suddenly ..or after transfer app in SD card .don't Uninstall that app ... because afterward it can produce crash memory which sometimes difficult to remove again

Only use is to free up internal storage.

Nothing harmful. The disadvantage is... SD cards are utterly slow. I have a class 10 U3 card and, it's slow AF.
