If You are facing adaptive brightness issue in M series than there is unusual way of walk-through to resolve it
As we know since android 9 adaptive brightness and adaptive power mechanism merged into Device health services
So if you want to reset the Adaptive brightness than just open settings - apps - click three dot menu - show system apps - device health services - storage
Than click manage storage - select clear data or select reset adaptive brightness
