To reset the adaptive brightness, you'll need to go to Settings > Apps and notifications > See all x apps > Device Health Service > Storage and cache > Clear storage > Reset adaptive brightness.

If you find that the display dims automatically and you'd like to increase the brightness, try deactivating the Adaptive brightness feature to control the screen brightness yourself.
1 Go to "Settings".
2 Tap "Display".
3 Tap the switch to deactivate "Adaptive brightness".
4 Slide the bar to the right to increase the screen brightness.
