All Devices Running on Android 9.0 Pie & Later Will be Treble-compliant
By Teja Chedalla, phoneradar.com

November 15, 2018 07:14 AM Alongside the Android Oreo release, Google ambitiously announced the Project Treble in 2017. Under Project Treble, the smartphone manufacturers can release the newer OTA updates faster than earlier for their devices. A majority of the manufacturers add a heavily customized skin on top of Android OS to make their stand out from the crowd. Since the in-house UI has to be compliant with the newer version of Android, it takes time for manufacturers to release the OTA updates. Unlike iOS, the adoption rate of the newer versions of the Android OS is very slow.

While Google is trying to fix with the Project Treble, the manufacturer active participation is also needed for its success. As of now, there are only a handful of manufacturers including OnePlus and Nokia who have announced Treble support for their complete portfolio. Even the faster roll-out of Android 9.0 Pie update is happening because of the several Treble-compliant smartphones in the market.

The manufactures can directly push the new Android OS update with without having to make any tweaks to the vendor implementation. The developers can also take advantage by running the same Generic System Image (GSI) on different Treble-compliant devices. While all the upcoming Android versions will be supporting project Treble out of the box, we should also expect faster software update for all the devices. Stay tuned on Phone Radar for more details!
