One is never too old to learn, I have grown up to understand the two as the same and assumed that a turtle, needs a swampy area/water and all in this family lay eggs on land/sand and then the migration of offsprings from land/sand to the water (swamps/river or ocean) depending where the turtle lives. I have to unlearn this.
And...One big distinction between Terrapins and tortoises is that Terrapins can't retract their heads as you can see In the picture, they just bend it sideways whereas a tortoise can retract is head into its shell as we know 😉
