Screen replacement samsung flip 3

Hi,

Need some advice please.

. Just took my phone as screen going black every now and then. Just took it to a service centre and can it be fixed. I need screen replacement but was told if I didn't give him my password for my phone I would lose all data. Is this normal? I've never had to give my password out before.
