if your priorities are bigger battery then go for m series, but if you like secure folder, edge lighting, goodlock and full fledge of one ui optimisation then go for A series but A50s or above
because M series lack of several ui feature so please keep in mind

and as you mention a31, my suggestion is not to go with a31, a21,a31s etc.. they have also missing great feature specially in camera.
if A series then A50s or above like a51 a71. but you need to increase your budget only.
