As per your query, when you are on call and hold the phone near your ear then due to proximity sensor display screen turns off to prevent unwanted pressing of keypad from display and also to reduce the battery consumption of device while you are on call.
However, if your device gets auto locked instead of screen turning off, then kindly register your concern in Samsung members app (Open Samsung members app>click on “+“icon>send feedback>Error report/ Ask Questions).
