I suppose it depends on what type of data you're looking to backup. I used to use separate applications, though I'm sure that there are now more convenient ones.

Hi ash213
Here are some great apps and methods you can use to backup your data from a Samsung phone and restore it on a “normal” (non-Samsung) Android phone:
---
✅ Best Tools to Backup & Transfer Your Data
1. Google Backup (Free & Built-In)
Works for: Contacts, Calendar, App data, Photos & Videos, SMS (varies by device), Settings.
✔️ Backs up to your Google account
✔️ Restores easily on any Android phone
How to use:
1. On your Samsung phone:
Settings → Google → Backup
2. Turn on Back up to Google Drive
3. On your new phone during setup:
Sign in with the same Google account → choose to restore
📌 Works well for:
Contacts
Calendar
Apps (not all app data if developers don’t allow it)
Photos/Videos (if using Google Photos)
---
2. Google Photos
For: Photos & Videos
✔️ Free (with Google account)
✔️ Automatic sync
How to use:
1. Install Google Photos on your Samsung
2. Open the app → Backup & sync ON
3. On your new phone, install Google Photos and sign in
All photos/videos will appear
---
3. Samsung Smart Switch
For: Backups from Samsung devices
✔️ Great for Samsung to Samsung
✔️ Can export data to a file you transfer
How to use:
Smart Switch app (already on many Samsung phones)
Backup to PC/Mac or SD card
Transfer file to new phone
📌 On non-Samsung phones you may not get full compatibility, but most items (contacts, messages, photos) will transfer.
---
4. Third-Party Apps
📌 Syncthing (Free)
Syncs files between phones directly (peer-to-peer)
Good for photos, videos, documents
📌 SMS Backup & Restore
Best for saving text messages & call logs
Save to Google Drive/Dropbox and restore on new phone
📌 Helium Backup
Works without root
Backs up app data (but setup is a bit technical)
---

Contacts ✅ – ✅ Depends
Calendar ✅ – ✅ –
SMS/Messages Limited – ✅ ✅ (SMS Backup & Restore)
Photos/Videos Optional (via Google Photos) ✅ ✅ ✅
App Data Partial – Partial Helium (partial)

🛠 Tips for a Smooth Transfer
✔️ Use the same Google account on both phones
✔️ Connect to Wi-Fi before backing up/restore
✔️ Back up photos first with Google Photos to avoid missing anything
✔️ Do your restore during initial setup of the new phone if possible
---
📱 Simple Recommendation
👉 Best for most users:
Google Backup + Google Photos + SMS Backup & Restore
This combo covers nearly everything you’d want to move from one Android phone to another.
