Samsung is ending software support for these 3 devices Samsung is ending support for two of its tablets and one smartphone. However, these are not ancient devices. The Galaxy Tab A7 Lite was released in 2021, and the Galaxy Tab S6 Lite was introduced a year earlier. Support is also ending for the Galaxy M42 5G, which went on sale in the spring of 2021. All of these devices will lose support starting in June 2025. Samsung originally promised them 3 major Android system updates and several security patches. Now that this has been fulfilled, they have been removed from the regular biannual update schedule. Their owners will have to decide whether to replace them with newer models or continue using them without Samsung’s security patches. This means that using sensitive apps (social media, mobile banking) will remain secure. However, the loss of manufacturer support is still a major concern for future operation — even though these tablets still offer decent performance and solid features for daily use. On the other hand, the Galaxy M42 5G has long been surpassed by newer phones. One option is to upgrade to newer devices that still have guaranteed system support. For example, Samsung’s latest A-series phones come with 6 years of updates, which is nearly unheard of among other manufacturers. Tablets like the Galaxy Tab S9 or Tab S10 are also still supported, offering solid performance, modern features, and can be used for both work and entertainment.
