Hours after Honor announced its first punch hole display smartphone - the Honor View 20, Samsung launched the long-time rumoured Galaxy A8s, which also comes with the similar in-display selfie camera. Samsung has launched the Galaxy A8s at an event in China today. The Galaxy A8s is the first ever smartphone from the South Korean smartphone manufacturer to come with the Infinity-O display, which was unveiled alongside several other Displays at the Samsung Developers Conference last month. At the same event, Samsung announced the coming of its foldable phone in 2019. Coming back to the Galaxy A8s, the phone becomes the first phone to officially launch with the in-display selfie camera. The front camera on the Galaxy A8s is placed inside a punch hole on the top right corner of the display. Compared to the Honor View 20, the Samsung Galaxy A8s comes with a slightly bigger punch hole on the front. Samsung says that the front camera hole on the front of the Galaxy A8s is about 4.8mm, which in comparison to Honor is slightly bigger. Huawei sub-brand Honor has announced that the punch hole on the View 20 will be 4.5mm in dimensions.
As rumoured, the Galaxy A8s is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 octa-core processor coupled with Kryo 360 CPU and Adreno 616 GPU. The smartphone has been launched in two variants in China. The base model comes with 6GB RAM and 128GB of internal storage, while the top-end model comes with 8GB RAM and 128GB of internal storage. On the software front, the Samsung Galaxy A8s runs on Android 8.1 Oreo out-of-the-box with Samsung Experience UI 9.5 on top.
The Samsung Galaxy A8s comes with a 6.4-inch display with Full HD resolution and an aspect ratio of 19.5:9. As far as the camera setup of the phone is concerned, Samsung uses the same camera system in the Galaxy A8s as seen in the Galaxy A9. As for the camera configurations, on the rear panel, the Galaxy A8s includes a primary sensor of 24MP paired with f/1.7 aperture, the secondary sensor of 10MP, while the third camera includes a 5MP depth sensor. The primary camera of the Galaxy A8s on the back is dedicated for ultra-wide angle lens, while the second sensor is a telephoto lens. Right below the rear camera setup, there's the fingerprint sensor for unlocking the phone with a finger touch.
As far as the overall design of the phone is concerned, the Galaxy A8s comes with a glossy finish body with Aluminum frame. As of now, Samsung hasn't revealed the pricing of the Galaxy A8s, and there are also no details about the India availability of the phone as of now.
