Galaxy A
I bought the 4G variant, because the 5G model is not available in my country. I think it is a good phone for the price tag. It lacks a 3.5 mm audio jack, but it has an improved loud speaker compared to previous models, that is also bassy; which is not something you would expect from mobile devices. (Although I don't know if it's because I also use an equalizer app.) The AMOLED screen is awsome, and I immediately noticed the difference from my old A05 which had an ordinary PLS. The colours on that device's screen (and other cellphones that use PLS/TFT) look washed out, low quality and demotivating. I don't know how I survived using that phone for over a year. It also has NFC (so you can integrate your debit card for wireless payment) and abundant memory that can handle games which are over 40 gigabytes. Another thing that I noticed is that the A17 (the 4G variant, at least) has an improved fast charge system. Although it is still 25W (which is the standard on most samsung devices) the fast charge on the A17 powers up the phone more efficiently, and maintains a 3A charge even when its past 80%, to top up the phone even faster. (Previous models throttled the charge when the phone is nearly finished, legnthening charging times the fuller your phone is.) It has OIS on its camera system; as well as two A76 power cores that execute demanding tasks and game emulation with ease. (Although it still lags when it comes to PS2.) [The Cortex A76 processors are almost PC level, or that's what the online forums said.]
With that being said, please keep in mind that a cellphone is not a replacement for a gaming machine, or a full PC; nor is it fair to judge a cell phone by those standards. Those who are looking for those applications should purchase the real thing, and not attribute bad reviews on false dreams.
When it comes to smartphones, Samsung (and the A17) is pretty high up on the ladder, and closing the gap with iPhone when it comes to build quality. With a 24 month warranty (double other cellphone manufacturers) and six years of software support; I'm not looking back.
**I got the baby blue, and nicknamed it my Tamagochi 😛

Galaxy A
You have to consider your type of lifestyle, and what you will do with it. It has two PC level computing cores (Cortex A76), as well as Mali-G57 dual core graphics. It performs flawlessly on all games with a 90Hz screen, and can even play Fortnite.
With that in mind, it is still a cell phone at the end of the day. If you are looking for a beast of a computing device, you would have to consider your financial budget and be willing to fork out more cash (Over R4 k or R5k) for a device with a Snapdragon processor. And if your applications will be that demanding, I suggest that you invest in a full computer or a gaming machine. These are still cell phones at the end of the day, and are not replacements for those machines. I implore you to consider this. I myself am enthralled with the idea of a mobile companion with a slim forn-factor that is always with me, and I can take anywhere. (Like an electronic pet or a pokémon.)
As far as an upgrade, it is indeed, and I did not look back.
I Hope this helps
