Restrict apps from accessing internet.

How to stop certain apps from accessing internet data/Wifi.

I tried turning off background data in the apps settings. But when I open the app it uses internet. But i don't need internet to work in the app.

Ex : MX player now have online streaming thing, bit I don't need it and it shows up ads too. So is there any way to stop it from accessing internet ?
