Galaxy AOn my samusung A36 i cant record Ultra wide video for some reason. Based on reviews from YouTube, while the phone was on one ui 7, it could record in ultra wide, but one ui 8 removed this feature. Was this really necessary?

Galaxy A
Hi Leon24
I couldn’t find any official statement by Samsung confirming that One UI 8 intentionally removed ultra-wide video recording on the Galaxy A36, so I can’t say for sure it was “necessary.” It looks more like a design / software decision. I’ll run through what I found and what the possibilities are — you might want to check some of these yourself to see if there’s a workaround.
---
What is known
Here’s what I found out about the A36 and its video / camera specs:
The Galaxy A36 5G has a rear ultrawide lens (8 MP ultrawide, per specs)
Its video specs include 4K @ 30fps recording
There are reports that the phone supports 10-bit HDR video recording
One UI 8 is one of the updates available for the A36 (among many Galaxy A devices listed under One UI-8 compatibility)
But I did not find anything in those specs or Samsung’s documentation that confirms “ultra-wide video recording” was removed or deprecated.
---
What might be happening
Given what you described, here are some plausible reasons why ultra-wide video may no longer be available (or what appears as “removed”) after the update:
1. Software / firmware decision
Sometimes Samsung disables certain camera features in higher resolutions, frame rates, or certain modes (e.g. HDR, stabilization) because supporting them adds extra processor load, or because stabilization or quality suffers with that lens at that resolution.
It might be that ultra-wide video is only possible in certain resolutions / frame rates (e.g. 1080p vs 4K), and that the update restricts it under the “4K @ 30fps” setting or in HDR mode.
2. Region or variant limitations
It may differ depending on country / carrier variant of the A36. Some features are enabled in some regions and disabled in others.
It could be that the update your region got doesn’t include that feature (yet) or that the hardware variant has firmware that disables it.
3. Bug or temporary omission
It’s possible it’s a bug or oversight in the update, rather than an intentional removal.
Users might report it in Samsung Members forum or similar places (though I didn’t find a direct report for A36 about that exact issue in what I searched).
4. Trade-off choices by Samsung
Samsung might have removed or disabled it to improve battery life, reduce heat, or improve stability in video capture.
Or perhaps because performance (frame drops, overheating, stabilization artifacts) in ultra-wide video was subpar under certain conditions, so it's disabled in newer UI until they improve the support.
5. User interface change
It’s also possible the camera app interface changed: ultra-wide video could still be possible but perhaps not in that mode / resolution / setting you’re expecting. Sometimes premium modes or pro-video settings are where that lens becomes available.
---
What you can try
To check / possibly work around the issue:
Open the Camera app → go to Video mode → see if you can switch lens (1× / 0.5×) when in different resolutions or frame-rate settings. Maybe in 1080p or non-HDR mode the option returns.
Check in Camera settings for advanced video options (HDR toggle, stabilization / EIS toggles).
Review which exact resolution & fps you’re using. Sometimes ultra-wide is disabled for 4K or HDR. Try lower resolution and see if “0.5× / ultra-wide” appears.
Check if there are updates / patches to the camera or firmware in your region (via Settings → Software update). It might be that Samsung issues a fix to restore the feature.
Search for “Galaxy A36 ultra wide video One UI 8” in local Samsung forums (South Africa / your carrier) to see if others have same problem

Omg you were right, the 1st option was correct, and an overlook on my side. It seems my settings were FHD 60fps and ultra wide doesn't support it, it's supports FHD 30fps. Thank you very much, your information helped me greatly.
