Concerns with
Samsung's
Mobile Software Strategy

As an independent testing entity, we conducted rigorous, multi-phase evaluations of the Samsung A55 5G (A556E PKD Units). Our findings indicate that Samsung Engineering's software strategies are lacking, particularly in regards to user-friendly app development.

Google's software offerings, such as Google Pass, surpass Samsung's equivalents (e.g., Samsung Pass, Samsung Health, Secure Folder) in terms of functionality and user experience, especially on rooted devices.
Our testing revealed that Samsung's claims about security concerns on rooted devices are unfounded when using Google's alternatives.
We disabled Secure Folder and opted for Google services instead, which provided more features and seamless functionality. Biometric authentication remained fully functional. This raises questions about the efficacy and purpose of Knox security.

Our analysis suggests that Samsung's Knox strategy is self-serving and detrimental to the company's long-term success. Despite reaching out to Samsung for clarification, their responses were unhelpful and immature.

The reality is that 95% of customers are unaware of advanced technologies like Knox. Rather than updating their apps to accommodate these users, Samsung encourages them to abandon their products. The Warranty Bit Blown (WBW) responses in official ROM installation environments are inadequate.

Our testing showed that Secure Folder and Samsung Health functioned successfully on rooted devices, contradicting Samsung's claims about Knox-specific territories. We believe that Apple and Samsung are creating unnecessary psychological stress among their loyal customers in the name of security and personal privacy.

We propose that Samsung revamp its software development approach to prioritize user-friendly app development and address the concerns we've raised. Our solutions offer a clear path forward for Samsung to improve its mobile software strategy and better serve its customers.
Critical Examination of
Knox-Based Security
Our analysis reveals a significant flaw in Samsung's Knox-based security approach. The existence of Samsung Pass and Secure Folder spaces is questionable, given the availability of Google's alternative solutions.
Notably, our testing on rooted devices demonstrated the full functionality of Secure Folder, Health, and SmartThings, despite claims of Knox-specific security. This inconsistency raises concerns about Samsung's integrity and transparency. If Knox is the cornerstone of Samsung's security, why are biometrics and smart features left unsecured? The functionality of these features on rooted devices contradicts Samsung's statements about Knox-based security.
  • We question the logic behind Samsung's approach, which appears to prioritize marketing claims over actual security and user experience.
  • The availability of Google's alternatives renders Samsung's proprietary solutions redundant.
  • We urge Samsung to reassess its security strategy and prioritize user needs over marketing rhetoric.
