Galaxy ASince you’ve already tried Safe Mode, permissions, the diagnostic menu, and wiping cache partition, this seems less like a software permission issue and more like either a firmware/software glitch caused by the update or a hardware problem triggered or exposed after the update. Here’s a systematic approach to try before concluding it’s hardware:
---
1️⃣ Test Each Microphone Separately
The Galaxy A55 has multiple microphones:
Bottom microphone (main mic, for calls/recording)
Top microphone (noise cancellation, sometimes used in video)
Secondary mic (for video and calls)
Test method:
Open Voice Recorder → select Standard recording (bottom mic) → record.
Open Video Recorder → record video using front and rear cameras. Check which mic works.
> This will confirm if it’s just the lower mic or all mics.
---
2️⃣ Try a Full Firmware Reinstallation
Sometimes One UI updates introduce glitches that wiping cache can’t fix. Re-flashing the firmware can help.
Options:
Official Samsung Smart Switch (PC):
Connect phone → “Emergency Software Recovery” → follow instructions.
Odin flashing (manual, advanced):
Download official firmware for your exact model from SamMobile or Samsung Updates → flash only the PDA/AP file.
> Important: Backup all your data first.
---
3️⃣ Check for Debris or Physical Obstruction
Even if it coincided with an update, sometimes tiny dust or dirt in the bottom microphone port can cause garbled sound.
Blow gently or use a soft brush.
Remove any case or screen protector that may block sound.
---
4️⃣ Last Resort: Factory Reset
If firmware reinstall is not possible or inconvenient:
Backup your phone completely.
Go to Settings → General management → Reset → Factory data reset.
Test microphone before restoring apps.
> If the mic works after a clean factory reset, it was software. If still garbled, likely hardware.
---
5️⃣ Hardware Possibility
If nothing above works:
The bottom mic might have failed, coincidentally after the update, or update triggered a hardware recognition issue.
Samsung service center can test the mic with their tools and replace if needed.
---
💡 Extra Tip:
Sometimes, apps like WhatsApp or Voice Recorder have their own recording settings. Test the Samsung Phone app for a voice call—this is the cleanest test. If that also sounds garbled, the problem is at the mic/firmware level, not app-level.
