I have recently been noticing that the battery last quite less than it used to. It is okay when I turn the battery saver on, but then it also slows the phone down. Also recently I have noticed that the phone has been freezing apps.

You can manage Battery Saver. Turn off Reduce CPU to have higher performance while Power Saving is on.

There is no use of any battery saver app. Despite of all its a software that consumpt. Higher the functions and facilities, higher battery drain.

I know but getting 3hrs on normal usage is very low either way

Yes, same problem mine too my j7pro was batter than this. I think all companies force users to change their phones after warranty over, by giving stupid update. Apple was lost court case regarding same.
