Galaxy ASame happened to me. We can't expect the updates (even the security patches) from Samsung when they are busy launching new phone and providing updates to them. They already are working on updating their flagships with One UI 2.1 version and have updated the new Low-range and Mid-range devices to One UI ver.2.0.
I have lost hope on Samsung mid-range devices like this as it has slowed down too much and the UI lags are so frequent. Without the frequent software support, these phones are not good at all.
If you genuinely want to switch to something else, I would suggest you to move on to Google Pixel 4xl, or One Plus 8 Pro.
I wouldn't suggest you Apple products as the ecosystem is vast and up-to-date yet costly. Once you buy an iPhone, you will find the need of other Apple products for various functions like data transfer, music streaming, device connections. Though you will get at least 4 years of software updates, you would definitely not be able to use the same phone for more than 3 years. But again, if your budget can handle all these problems then yeah, go ahead.
