Image quality of Samsung camera and social app camera
Until now, it has not been easy to use the high-performance solutions used in Samsung cameras for social app cameras that are not Samsung cameras. The Samsung camera uses Samsung's own Framework, and the social app camera uses the framework provided by Android, so it operates on a different basis than the Samsung camera. For this reason, Samsung cameras and social app cameras differ in the solutions they use and how they work, resulting in differences in image quality between the two cameras.
In addition, some apps use Samsung camera solutions through SDK-type libraries, but in order to use them, each function required must be provided in SDK form, and app developers must also implement them separately. Also, even if the SDK is available, due to some limitations depending on the properties of the app, light version solutions may be used instead of solutions with the same performance as those used in Samsung cameras.
Application of new structure (UniHAL+)
In the Galaxy S24, we have adopted a new structure called UniHAL+[1] to address the performance deterioration in the social app camera due to such structural constraints. UniHAL+ is an improved S/W structure that allows the social app camera to use Samsung HAL (Hardware Abstract Layer), which provides improved image quality to the social app camera by using the same H/W solution as the Samsung camera. It is a S/W structure that allows efficient developments related to social app cameras.
As a result, you can experience the same image quality and features as the Samsung Galaxy S24 camera with the supported social app camera.
Enhanced social app camera experience from filming to viewing
In the Galaxy S24, the following H/W solutions that were previously only available on Samsung cameras have been applied to the social app camera, allowing you to experience improved in-app camera quality and enjoy richer image quality when viewing photos and videos in social apps, such as in the same Super HDR (High Dynamic Range) effect as the Samsung camera.
By using these solutions, HDR performance is further improved in preview mode by utilizing the sensor's backlight correction function, and bright and clear images can be captured even in low light. Additionally, by using an anti-shake solution with the same performance as Samsung cameras, you can film stable videos without shaking.

You can experience richer image quality with social app cameras, not only when filming but also when viewing videos. The HDR viewing function that increases the display brightness, which was first applied to the Samsung camera in the Galaxy S24, has also been applied to the social app camera, and HDR videos filmed with the social app camera or with the Samsung camera can be viewed in HDR on social apps as well. [1] The UniHAL+ structure is a S/W structure first introduced in the Galaxy S24, and it is expected to be applied to future models (Galaxy flagship models only), including the Galaxy S24. It will not be applied to models that came before Galaxy S24
[2] This feature is a solution provided by Samsung and can only be enjoyed on other apps if the app developers implement the feature using the solution, hence at present, it is available only on Instagram. We are in discussions with other app developers to implement the feature so that it can be experienced in apps other than Instagram as well.
