Introducing the Super Steady Mode

Super Steady was first introduced in the S10 series. This technology compensates for unsteady footage more effectively than VDIS [1].

This results in more stable shots than with the VDIS option enabled when you're in the middle of an activity that involves shaky hands and dynamic movements.

Correction Margin gap between VDIS and Super Steady

Stabilisation margin refers to the degree to which a smartphone can correct unsteadiness in its footage.
For example, a 20% margin means that the video is cut down by 20% both horizontally and vertically from the input video, and the 20% reduced area is used to compensate for the unsteadiness in the input.
VDIS works with the 20% margin over the footage obtained by the camera to get a smaller field of view and uses it to compensate for any unsteadiness, as shown in the figure below.

Super Steady, on the other hand, works based on the same concept as VDIS, but will use an 80% margin over the input.
Using more margin means you can compensate for extreme camera jerks in your footage, allowing you to stabilise stronger camera jerks than with VDIS.
For this reason, Super Steady is best used in situations where there is a lot of movement, or in certain situations where the dynamic movements of the cameraman makes it impossible to get a steady shot.

Using Super Steady  [2][3]

 - How to run it

  1. Open the camera app and go to video mode.
  2. Tap on the icon resembling a palm on the top menu to activate the Super Steady mode.

When is it recommended to use Super Steady

We recommend enabling Super Steady mode in situations where there is running or dynamic movements involved. The shakier the camera, the more effective Super Steady is at capturing jerky footage than VDIS.

Situations to avoid using Super Steady in

Super Steady mode uses a large amount of compensating margin to stabilize the camera jerks to an extreme. But, in static situations (cameraman does not move) or low-light environments, the exposure[4] time to take in the light will be longer and there will also be motion blur from the camera's movements. Super Steady will cause a loss of image quality in these circumstances.  We recommend disabling it in these situations:

  1. When there is little to no movement from the cameraman
