24 MP Resolution
When capturing photos with the Galaxy Camera, the default resolution is set at 12MP. Additionally, phones equipped with high-resolution sensors can shoot photos at resolutions ranging from 50MP to an impressive 200MP, depending on the sensor's capabilities. High-resolution photography enables the capture of intricate textures under sufficient light. Conversely, employing Pixel Binning technology on high-resolution sensors combines adjacent pixels, resulting in reduced resolution but improved sensor sensitivity, leading to less noise and sharper images.
Below illustrates the process of obtaining 50MP and 12MP photos from a 200MP sensor.
High-resolution sensors influence the characteristics of photos based on the chosen resolution. All these resolutions are generated by controlling the hardware operations of the image sensor.
The 24MP resolution is a computed resolution, not physically present in the actual sensor, utilizing Computational Photography. It aims to preserve the good sensitivity characteristics of 12MP and the excellent detail features of 50MP.
Principle of 24MP Resolution Generation
A 24MP photo is created using multiple 12MP photos and a 50MP photo. The 12MP photos utilize good sensitivity characteristics to produce effective HDR (High Dynamic Range), while the 50MP photo extracts detailed components to generate the 24MP photo. The diagram below provides a conceptual overview.
Multiple 12MP photos express shadow and highlight areas effectively to create an HDR photo. The 50MP photo's detail elements are then synthesized to generate the 24MP photo. The 12MP images, in the case of a 200MP sensor, bin 16 pixels into one, while a 50MP sensor bins 4 pixels, sacrificing some detail but improving sensitivity. The RAW file storage minimizes data loss in shadow and highlight areas. The 50MP photo, despite lower dynamic range, contains abundant detail, contributing to securing details in the creation of the 24MP photo.
The resulting images are saved as RGB 16-bit RAW and JPEG images in the Expert RAW app. Users can later use Adobe Photoshop Lightroom to enhance shadow and highlight representation as desired.

Starting from the Galaxy S24, the default resolution in the Expert RAW app is set to 24MP, allowing users to effortlessly capture 24MP photos without any additional manipulation. The support for both 12MP and 50MP resolutions remains, providing users the flexibility to shoot at their preferred resolution.
Conclusion
With the utilization of AI-based Computational Photography technology, the Expert RAW app offers a default resolution of 24MP from the Galaxy S24 onward. This enhancement provides users with an even more professional and advanced photography experience.
