App icon as notification

How do I stop floating app icon from appearing with each notification. I want to have the notification as a popup preview and in the notification panel only.

well if you mean the "appear on top" apps like fb messenger for example, you can turn it off by; go to settings, Apps, search and select your desired app, in the Advanced section turn off the "Appear on top" permission.

Thanks for the advice. What I mean is the Icon notification in SMS, missed calls, maps....etc. I have attached a screen shot for an example.

BTW, I tried turning off the "appear on top" for each of the applications I mentioned but it doesn't fix this.

Ah I see, now I understand what you have meant to do. Using Android Pie, I can go to setting, Advanced features, smart pop-up view and then turn off all the apps as attached. Hope this helps!
