You can organise content, copy or move items to different storage locations, transfer files to a PC, and create or manage folders to keep your storage organised. Follow the steps below to locate downloaded files and manage your content efficiently.
How to find downloaded files
The My Files app automatically categorises your files by type. Downloaded content is stored in the Downloads category.
Step 1. Tap the My Files app.
Step 2. Select Downloads.
Step 3. Tap the Search icon.
Step 4. Enter the file name to search.
- Most downloaded files can be opened through the My Files app.
Some protected media files may only open in their respective apps due to copyright restrictions.
How to download attached files
Follow the steps below to download a file.
Step 2. Go to the website where you want to download a file and select the file you want.
Step 3. When a pop-up appears, tap Download.
Step 4. Swipe down from the top of the screen to open the notification panel.
Step 5. Check whether the download is complete.
Note:
- On websites with restricted scripts, the Download option may be disabled or limited.
- If the download does not start, check your internet connection or available storage space.
For safety, download files only from trusted websites.
How to copy or move files to external storage
If your Galaxy device supports an SD card or is connected to USB or SD storage using OTG, you can move or copy files from internal storage to external storage.
Step 1. Insert an SD card or connect USB or SD storage using OTG, then tap the My Files app.
Step 2. Find the file or folder you want to manage.
Step 3. Touch and hold the item, then tap Copy or Move.
Step 4. Select the destination storage or folder and tap Move here.
Note: SD card support may vary depending on your device model.
How to transfer files between your Galaxy device and PC
You can transfer files by connecting your device to a PC with a USB cable and changing the USB usage option.
Step 1. Swipe down from the top of the screen and tap the USB for file transfer notification.
Step 2. Change the USB setting on your phone to Transferring files/Android Auto, then open file Explorer on your PC and select your Galaxy device to copy or move files.
How to create a new folder
Create folders to organise your files by type, project, or usage.
Step 1. Tap the My Files app.
Step 2. Select Internal storage.
Step 3. Tap More options (three dots).
Step 4. Tap Create folder.
Step 5. Enter a folder name and tap Create.
Step 6. Confirm that the new folder has been added.
How to move a folder
Step 1. Tap the My Files app.
Step 2. Select Internal storage.
Step 3. Touch and hold the folder you want to move.
Step 4. Tap Move.
Step 5. Select the destination folder.
Step 6. Tap Move here.
Step 7. Confirm that the folder has been moved.
How to delete files or folders
You can delete unnecessary files or folders from the My Files app to free up storage space.
Note:
- The Recycle bin may not be available on all models.
- Items stored in the Recycle bin are permanently deleted after 30 days.
- Menu names, paths, and screen layouts may vary depending on your device model, software or app version.
