This is yours truly bringing you yet another tech instalment from lockdown! <span class="lia-unicode-emoji" title=":smiling_face_with_sunglasses:">😎</span><DIV><BR /></DIV><DIV>Before I get to what LTPO is, let me run you through what refresh and frame rates are.&nbsp;</DIV><DIV><BR /></DIV><DIV>To begin with, frame rates and refresh rates aren't the same thing.&nbsp;</DIV><DIV>The refresh rate is a <B>hardware capability </B>whereas the frame yet is <B>the maximum refresh rate a particular app / game can support.</B></DIV><DIV><B><BR /></B></DIV><DIV>Not that confusing eh? Quite refreshing. <span class="lia-unicode-emoji" title=":smirking_face:">😏</span></DIV><DIV><BR /></DIV><DIV>Can you stop making unnecessary puns Dhruv?</DIV><DIV><BR /></DIV><DIV>Of course. I Hertz you.</DIV><DIV><BR /></DIV><DIV>You see, every display out there has a <B>capped / locked </B>fresh rate.&nbsp;<BR /></DIV><DIV><BR /></DIV><DIV>My S9+ is capped at the conventional 60Hz. This means that the display on my device refreshes 60 times a second. To correlate this on other electrical devices, let's take a light bulb for example. In India, appliances are set to run at 50Hz. This implies that these appliances "refresh" 50 times a second. You can't notice it with your naked eyes.&nbsp;</DIV><DIV><BR /></DIV><DIV>Pro tip : Open up your camera and point it at the light bulb / any tubelight. Now dial back your exposure and notice your bulb pulsate (obviously not at 50 times/s but you get my point).</DIV><DIV><BR /></DIV><DIV>Why does it refresh like that? Well, that's because the current <B>alternates 50 times a second. </B>That is why it's called <B>AC</B> or <B>alternating current</B>. You're welcome. <span class="lia-unicode-emoji" title=":smiling_face_with_sunglasses:">😎</span><span class="lia-unicode-emoji" title=":fire:">🔥</span></DIV><DIV><BR /></DIV><DIV>Okay enough of bulbs and tubelights, let's get to the point.&nbsp;</DIV><DIV><BR /></DIV><DIV>Back to screens. 2020 has seen the trend of high refresh display panels on smartphones. The Galaxy S20 lineup of phones have displays that can run at 60Hz / 120Hz. Along with a high refresh rate of 120Hz they also have a high <B>touch response </B>of 240Hz. In simple terms, touch response is the time between you touching your screen and the device reacting to it. Naturally, a higher response sensitivity will mean that time will be lesser, and hence <B>more responsive.&nbsp;</B></DIV><DIV><B><BR /></B></DIV><DIV><DIV><BR /></DIV><DIV><span class="lia-inline-image-display-wrapper" image-alt="image"><img src="https://r2.community.samsung.com/t5/image/serverpage/image-id/908832i0BEDDBAB85571E95/image-size/large?v=v2&amp;px=999" role="button" title="image" alt="image" /></span><FIGCAPTION data-before="Image description" class="badge" tabindex="0">Refresh rates compared.</FIGCAPTION></DIV><DIV><BR /></DIV><DIV>However, this means that the display can alternate between 2 refresh rates - 60 and 120Hz.
