About Always On Display

Always on display first debuted on Samsung's S7 and S7 edge series. Always on display keeps a portion of your screen on to display Time, Date, Notifications or Reminders on a part of your screen. It allows you to catch a glace at your screen and check what's new or check time without turning on your screen.
AOD makes use of the AMOLED display feature in which every pixels may not light up when the background is black. This helps us to utilise very low battery.

Let's have a look at Samsung's AOD features.

Firstly to turn on AOD on Samsung devices Go to:

Settings

Lockscreen

In That search for "Always on Display" and turn it on.

The initial menu looks like this

In first Section you have 3 option

A. Tap to show - When AOD would be shown only when you tap on your screen

B. Show Always - AOD would be on forever untill you turn it off.

C. Show at scheduled - It would be turned on automatically example like at night time.

The second section is of Clock style. Where tou can select various styles of clockface or AOD

As you can see there are again 2 sub options. In color option you can select the color accents of AOD.

At the end of the horizontal menu you could see options

The 1st is of More watch faces, 2nd is of AOD which you can get on Galaxy store, 3rd is of other extra AOD which we got via good lock.

You could also view your playing music on the AOD.

In third section you can eneble AOD in portrait or landscape mode and also adjust brightness. There are 4 modes in brightness but you could also set in auto mode.

In last section you have an option to show fingerprint as well as charging information.

ALSO FROM GALLERY YOU COULD USE AS AN IMAGE TO SET UP AS A CUSTOM AOD.

Below are a few points about AOD

On an average AOD consumes 2-3% of battery per hour.

Samsung's switches it's clock position time by time so as to prevent screen burns.

It automatically turns off when battery reaches 5% or when power saving mode is turned on.

So these is a brief overview about Samsung's AOD. As told earlier in my previous post. A lot is left to be desired.

I expect a few more features in future updates

Features like

Creating full custom AOD. (Resizing the clock, Changing it's position, ability to design own clock)

Notification dot on AOD can be a nifty feature.

Pocket mode in AOD to turn it automatically off when in pocket. Or dark detection mode to turn AOD on in dark places.

Live Sports or cricket scores in AOD

You guys can also comment down about your views or any new features desirable on AOD.

Not exactly 2-3%..depends on AOD brightness level and settings(like tap to show and schedule mode usually consumes less battery)..

ya exactly, but 2-3% is the total median average. Your consumption can increase if you use max brightness, Use Gifs. Similar you can save more battery if you eneble scheduled mode or Tap on display. Other factors may also include battery capacity of the particular phone model
