On the AOD screen, lock screen and status bar, if an app posts multiple notifications, we see a separate icon of the same app multiple times. This can hide notifications from other apps, if there are several notifications.

Having multiple notification icons from the same app is pointless.

Notifications from the same app must be clubbed together and only one icon must be shown on the status bar, lock screen and AOD screen. If possible,you can implement a suffix on the the bottom right of the icon with number of notifications from that app if it exceeds one.

In summary,

One App, One Notification icon.
