Hi khanyo3
This issue on the Galaxy A16 after updating to One UI 8 (Android 16) is becoming common. Many users are reporting apps crashing, screen going blank, background apps closing, and camera failing after the update.

Here are the most effective fixes you can try:

---

✅ 1. Clear System Cache (VERY IMPORTANT after a big update)

This fixes 90% of the crashing issues.

1. Switch off the phone completely.

2. Hold Volume Up + Power until the recovery screen appears.

3. Use volume keys to go to Wipe cache partition → Press power to select.

4. Choose Yes.

5. Then select Repair apps (if available).

6. Reboot.

This does NOT delete your data.

---

✅ 2. Reset All Settings

Sometimes the update corrupts system settings.

Settings → General Management → Reset → Reset all settings

No data is deleted.
Wi-Fi/Bluetooth settings will reset.

---

✅ 3. Check for App Compatibility

After One UI 8, many apps haven't updated yet.

Try:

Settings → Apps → (pick the crashing app) → Storage → Clear cache → Clear data

Especially do this for:

Camera

Gallery

WhatsApp

Instagram

System apps (Camera, One UI Home)

---

✅ 4. Update All System Components

Go to:

Settings → Software update → Download and install
Settings → Biometrics & security → Security update
Settings → Apps → Enable system apps → Update all Samsung apps via Galaxy Store.

---

✅ 5. Disable “Put Unused Apps to Sleep”

Sometimes UI 8 is too aggressive.

Settings → Battery → Background usage limits → Turn OFF all sleep options

---

⚠️ If All Fails → Safe Mode Test

To see if the issue is caused by apps:

1. Hold power button → Long press “Power off” → Safe mode

2. Test camera and apps.

If it works in safe mode → a third-party app is causing the crash.

---

❌ Worst Case: Full Factory Reset

If the update installed incorrectly, only a clean reset fixes it.

But try everything above first.

Hi ashlyn12, good question — and the answer is yes, it can still crash, even on a brand-new phone, before transferring your data, if the update itself has bugs or installs incorrectly.

But here’s the reality:

---

📌 Why a New Phone Can Still Crash After an Update

Even on a clean, unused phone, a major update like One UI 8 / Android 16 can cause issues because:

✅ 1. The update may have bugs for your specific model (A16).

Many A-series users reported instability after UI 8.

✅ 2. The update sometimes installs incorrectly.

This can cause:

camera crashes

home screen restarts

apps closing

screen going black then returning home

✅ 3. Firmware conflicts

Even without your data, the new firmware may not be fully optimized yet.

So yes, even a new device can experience the same problems.

---

📌 BUT — updating before transferring data is actually safer

If the update does crash:

you lose no data

you can reset the phone easily

you can test stability before setting it up fully

So updating first is still better.

---

🛠️ Best Practice When Updating a New Samsung Phone

To avoid problems:

1️⃣ Update the phone first (before transferring data)

2️⃣ After update finishes → Wipe cache partition

This is VERY important after a major update.

3️⃣ Then check the phone:

open camera

open gallery

open settings

open browser

If everything works properly → transfer your data.

---

👍 Summary

Yes, a new device can still crash after updating, but updating first is the safest method.
Just remember to wipe the cache partition after the update — it prevents 90% of glitches.
